Old Spice has come a long way since soap-on-a-rope
Last night I was crazily trying to reorganize a few cupboards in my kitchen to make room for the cake baking and decorating supplies I picked up at Bakers Cash & Carry and Walmart (they have some seriously fun cake decorating stuff there—who knew?) so I can pretend to be an expert cupcake maker for a baby shower I’m helping throw on Saturday. While attempting to corral about 20 containers of colored sugar, Nathan hollered at me to come watch something on TV.
Now, I honestly could care less about TV and I could care even less when I’m in the middle of something so I did the usual thing and sigh rather deeply as I made my way into the family room. He prefaced what I was about to see with something along the lines of “I want you to see this but I don’t really want you to see this.” That piqued my curiosity. This is what he showed me (aka “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like“):
…
…
I haven’t thought much about Old Spice since my elementary school days when I bought my dad Old Spice soap-on-a-rope for Father’s Day, his birthday and Christmas for five years straight. But this new commercial has me rethinking Old Spice as less an old school personal care line (i.e., perfect for an 80′s dad) and more a must-have for any man. And that, my friend, tells me “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” did just what Old Spice hoped it would: get women everywhere thinking about Old Spice (and beautiful men and showers and boats and diamonds and horses) and how soon they can purchase some for their significant other.
Where ARE my car keys?!?!

Too funny! I think I bought my dad much more than his fair share of Old Spice as well…

Just one more reason we are such good friends!

First, let me correct my oldest (I take every chance I can to correct Emily). It was 6 years of Old Spice for birthdays, Christmas, and Father’s Day, not 5. Second, it also worked for those “It wasn’t my fault” and “I didn’t do it” father-daughter discussions we had, as rare as those were. Just to go on record, I loved those soap-on-a-ropes and and looked forward to them. I wouldn’t trade them in for anything. . . . well except for maybe the camera she just bought.

Dad, you’re the best, especially for making me think you absolutely loved soap-on-a-rope as a gift. You still have me fooled!

LOL!!!

No fooling, I really did like the soaps! Now it’s just the silly green Irish Spring shower gel, not as much fun and it does fall on the floor occassionally. Maybe we need to invent a shower gel on-a-rope. Hey wait, they make toilet bowl gel cleaners that stick to the side of the bowl (tried them, they smell like industrial strength something). Maybe a self-sticking shower gel. Just stick one under each arm pit and shower away.

Dad, love the idea of self-sticking shower gel. I expect royalties for helping you come up with the idea. ;)

I’m sure it will wear off eventually, but that commercial makes me laugh every time I see it.

Hi, Cecily! Thanks for visiting and commenting! I imagine it will wear off soon as well but until then I’ll keep enjoying it!

I saw this on TV a few days ago and just laughed! Then, while I was on my computer, my 5yo saw the advertisement on the sidebar (exactly what you have on your post) and said “eww! He has his shirt off!” She’ll appreciate it one day… :) But for now, she has the right idea!

That is hilarious. And I love how they’re marketing to women for a man’s product. Smart.

My ex-husband loved Old Spice (much to my pleading against it), so I won’t let my husband wear it. Not only does it stink (with the exception of some more recent scents), but it reminds me of 5 years of my life that I want to forget.

My husband wears Old Spice Classic Antiperspirant Deodorant and, I hate to admit, sometimes I just shove my nose in his pit and take a huge whiff!!!

Okay, Suzi. That made me laugh out loud! :)

Oh my gosh, I LOVED this commercial. I seriously thought I would die laughing. The end, where he says, “oh, and I am on a horse” KILLED me! Good, good stuff!

This commercial totally cracked me up when I saw it on TV. I love how he ends up on a horse.

I may have watched this commercial over and over and over again the first time I saw it. And laughed like a crazy person every single time!
It was absolutely delightful to meet you today! Thank you for making me feel so comfortable! You and the rest of the Sassy’s are not only sassy- but classy. Thanks!

Lori & Michelle, why is it that last line is SO dang funny? Probably because it’s totally random!
Motherboard, it still elicits chuckles from me as well. The pleasure was all mine today–loved meeting you! Looking forward to seeing more of you. ;)

I think that Suzi’s comment was the absolutely funniest. I can’t even think of anything good to say after reading that.

ROFLMAO!!!! That commercial is freaking brilliant marketing. Hilarious. I’ve always loved the smell of old spice on a guy, so you can bet my man smells like old spice…. rawrrrrrr… ;)
