Greyson Chance, Lady GaGa and Ellen
What do these three have in common? They are all part of a whirlwind week of viral YouTube videos, “Paparazzi” covers and guest appearances. At the center of it all is Greyson Chance, 12-year-old extraordinaire. Thanks to Allison, I caught my first glimpse of Greyson doing a cover of Lady GaGa’s “Paparazzi” in this YouTube video:
…
And then I heard about Greyson’s guest appearance on Ellen:
…
Earlier today I read “Greyson Chance, 12-year-old YouTube and Twitter Superstar: How He Really Happened,” a story on Ad Age documenting Greyson’s rise to fame in what I believe happened in less than four weeks:
Note that Greyson — Greyson Michael Chance, a 12-year-old Oklahoma boy whose parents blessed him with an awesomely Twitter-ready, SEO-friendly first name — has lately had more Twitter buzz than Jonas Brothers and Lady Gaga. On Monday, a peak of 2,530 tweets name-checked him in one hour (vs. Jonas Bros.’ recent one-hour peak of 902 tweets, and Gaga’s 373). A couple weeks ago, nobody had heard of this kid. I decided to rewind the tape on this rather stunning tale of instant fame…”
That article led me to these two YouTube videos featuring songs Greyson composed himself. The first one is “Stars” and tells the tale of “a wife who dies of cancer but then she goes to heaven in the ‘Stars.’ Then the husband shortly after her.”
…
And the final is “Broken Hearts” stemming from personal experience. (The subjects of the song shall remain nameless according to Greyson. Good choice, buddy.)
…
Except for that whole hair-flip thing he keeps doing, I really like this kid. He seems down to earth, AUTHENTIC (i.e., not pimped out by Disney) and truly talented. Go, Greyson Chance, go!
