Mad Libs Monday: “Instructions for the Babysitter” by Shelle Blok of BlokThoughts

(Our most recent guest Mad Libber was Allison from Petit Elefant. You’ll love her “Advice Column” Mad Libs!)

Today’s “Instructions for the Babysitter” post comes to us courtesy of Shelle Blok and is from the Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Libs book.

BlokThoughts

I don’t know as much as I should about Shelle of BlokThoughts but a few things I do know:

  • She has amazingly gorgeous red hair. I’m a bit envious, actually.
  • She lives far too far away even if she is able to hop on a plane at a moment’s notice.
  • She has a very kind, very forgiving nature and is sometimes taken advantage of as a result.
  • She has a new, intriguing blog over at The Real World Venus vs. Mars (thoughts on open marriage, anyone?).
  • I don’t see her often enough. Twitter just isn’t the same as an IRL meet-up.

If you don’t know Shelle, it’s time you learned a bit more about her. Her about me page is one of the most impressive—and interesting—around. After the story you’ll find a few interesting facts about Shelle. Enjoy!

Yes, this really is Shelle’s life…

Name and/or nickname: Shelle; BlokThoughts

Where you grew up: St. George, UT

Favorite childhood game: Steal the Flag

Super cool mom moment (i.e., one of those moments when you were the coolest mom ever): My kids are easy to please. The first memory I can think of when my kids said “Mom you are the coolest” was when I actually LET them help me make cookies. They got to measure out the ingredients and poor them into the mixer. After we mixed the cookies I gave them each a spoon and told them to have at it. Since actually MAKING the cookie dough from scratch is rare with me working full time, their blue eyes got wide as a saucers and they couldn’t stop telling me how awesome I was for letting them eat the cookie dough “RIGHT OUT OF THE BOWL.” I’m not going to lie, it was easier to let them eat the cookie dough then have to dirty my pans to cook the cookies… being cool was just a SUPER DUPER COOL added bonus!

Totally uncool mom moment (if you’re willing to share): My son, who was two, was as curious as any two-year-old boy. I was watching a T.V. show, actually it was Dawson Creek re-runs, and I got sucked in… meaning, I tuned out what my son was doing. When I realized it had been quiet a little TOO long, I looked around and my son was NO where to be found, well as far as my eye could see on the couch… so I grudgingly got up off the couch and went to look for him. When I found him he had taken navy blue permanent marker that I had left out and drawn all over our office/guest bedroom. Our brand new two-week-old luggage was ruined, our bed frame we had gotten just months earlier, and our computer desk we had been given. His new Picasso was the last straw on the camel’s back. I flipped a lid. I yelled and yelled and yelled and when I saw the fear on his face, I yelled some more. When I was about to go in for a much needed spank on the bum, I froze, yelled some more and watched his alligator tears form in his eyes and slowly make tracks down his dirt-stricken face. Then I stomped off to my room to cry.

That was a bad moment when I realized I had threw a bigger fit then my two-year-old son. When he was more mature than me. When I realized I had lost control and handled it all wrong.

Your go-to “drug” of choice (e.g., Diet Coke, chocolate, Peeps, Venti anything from Starbucks): Strawberry frozen yogurt

Your guilty indulgence (e.g., reality TV shows, pedis, chick lit): Reading fantasy books.

If you were stranded on a desert island, preferably in the Caribbean, which famous person would you want with you and why? {Shelle forgot to answer this question but I’m sure she would have put down me because, you know, I’m super famous. And I’m not afraid to sport a coconut bra and grass skirt.}

I can’t believe I forgot the last one!!!

It would definitely be Damon from The Vampire Diaries!!! Or his real name is Ian Somerhalder. But I’d want to take him as Damon the Vampire… not because he’s HOT… come one girls I’m married, but because he his SUPER strong and fast and I have lots of blood just lying around in my body for him to feed off of… AND the whole erasing my memory wouldn’t hurt when I got discouraged. Ya know? Here’s a pic of him… http://weblogs.wpix.com/entertainment/gossipguy/2009/09/give_blood_meet_ian_somerhalde.html

    Sigh.

Thanks Emily for Spotlighting me! My Mad Libs is definitely MAD!!! bwahahahaha.

    Love ya!

Okay, now I need to start watching that show. Are you sure it wouldn’t really be me? You’re right. No hope of me being on that island when you’re talking super hot vampires. Dang!

Yes you DO need to start watching it… ummmm the people are hot! And ya know, it’s a good, “I don’t have to think”

But I’d definitely take you… it was a hard decision… but I had to go with strength and speed and stuff…

I’ve met Shelle twice! I had to pinch myself to believe it was real.
She truly is beautiful and I DO love her hair.
    Her dimples rock too.
She’s funny and kind and it’s nice to know that she fell apart at her son’s Picaso. At least I know she’s human.

    Emily Reply:

I totally forgot about her dimples–they are SO cute! And yes, that Picaso story made us all feel a bit better about our parenting, didn’t it? ;)

I fall apart all of the time!!! Tauna… I lubs you so much and you know it! We must get together again, but you’re going to have to come down here because Idaho is too cold right now! I don’t have sufficient clothes to not freeze to death!

Shelle’s whole family are like super models.

And we aren’t supposed to throw bigger fits then our kids? I am screwed.

I was thinking the same thing–all supermodels. How would that be? And I throw bigger fits than my kids all the time.

    Shelle-BlokThoughts Reply:

Steph you always know how to make a gal feel good about herself. It’s good to know you guys also throw fits. It was a hard lesson to learn and one I’ve repeated also!!! So maybe I haven’t learned anything. ANyway… thanks at SuperModels guys… I kind of gushed and lifted my chin up a bit more when I read that! :)

    never met her in person

PapaK–you are the best! Thanks for coming over here and being the only guy to comment! This is a pretty awesome idea huh? I laughed at you asking to steal it! hehehehe… I have every ounce of faith that you can do a spin off of it in your own special way!

Wait… I’m going to have to look up M.A.S.H. that sounds familiar… is that the Mansion, Apartment, Shack, and House one? I forgot what one does with that.

You’ve forgotten M.A.S.H.? Yes, mansion, apartment, shack house. Square in the middle. Names of boys on one side and the rest is fuzzy. I think number of kids in the middle and on the right, places to live? Then you either draw a spiral or hash marks super fast. When the person says stop, you count the lines and use that number to go around and cross things off. ;)
