A sparkling 4th of July!

2011 July 7
by Emily Hill

Thanks Kristen Duke‘s fabulous tips on how to photograph fireworks (featured on The Idea Room), I had a lot of fun catching all those sparkly things in action on the 4th of July. I still need a heck of a lot of little practice, and these were only neighborhood fireworks, but I think I caught a few fun ones. My faves are the sparklers, hands down (and around and around).

What you don’t see captured is 6 adults and 12 kids running for cover when one of the newfangled aerial fireworks tipped over and started shooting sparkly things left and right. About 5 hit the neighbor’s home across the street and a good 5 or more shot our direction. It was chaos mixed with hysterics mixed with a few choice words, but everyone was safe, thank heavens. Livi’s take on the mini adventure? More than enough fireworks action to last her a good long time…or at least until July 24th!

Hope your 4th was as awesome—though a bit less adventurous—as ours!

You'll like these too!

Fun pictures! I love the sparklers too. Our 4th was a bit wet, so our pictures didn’t turn out quite so stellar…

Adam brought back some fun fireworks from Missouri. He’s waiting for the 24th!
