Sometimes…we get a good feelin’

I wish I could tell you I’m the mom who plays fun, educational children’s music and stories in the car whenever we go somewhere, but I’m so not that mom. My kids listen to what I listen to—unless we have to hastily change the channel, of course. I was raised listening to my dad’s “oldies but goodies” and I love that we can still sing the classics together. There’s nothing like a duet of Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son” to bond a father and daughter.

Madison listens to music every spare minute she can. She knows more lyrics to more songs than humanly possible. (I probably knew the lyrics to every song when I was her age, too. Having kids has sapped so much more than just my energy.) She has music on all. the. time. And her siblings love it. In fact, Livi might know far too many lyrics to far too many songs, but by dang if she isn’t the cutest thing when she sings along.

Amid all this music, we do have a few family faves. These are songs I’ve actually taken the time to pay for and download, so you know they’re good. Or at least good enough to make cleaning the house less painful.

Colbie Caillat ~ “Brighter Than the Sun”

Maroon 5 ~ “Moves Like Jagger”

Train ~ “Drive By”

Flo Rida ~ “Good Feeling”

Fun ~ “We Are Young”

Gym Class Hereos ~ “Stereo Hearts” featuring Adam Levine

We also love LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” but that video would scar most of you for life. I know it did me after my brother-in-law insisted I watch it…and that it was his theme song.

I need therapy.

Of course one of my all-time favorites is also my theme song…because I’m definitely NOT growing old. (Excuse the poor quality; the video is from 1990. You know, before YouTube.)

Origin ~ “Growing Old”

What songs do you crank up when it’s time to clean house
(or when you’re in the car all by yourself)?

Correction, they’re not “oldies but goodies”, they’re “classic rock”!

Correction noted. Do you remember listening to the AM channel KFRC? Didn’t we listen to that in the morning on the way to school or wherever? :)
