An instant cure for iPad envy

After they announced the new iPad, my 3-month-old iPad 2 seemed as outdated as the Texas Instruments TI-99 I had growing up. (I totally programmed that thing too. I’m that cool.)

Okay, so it’s not that outdated. And it does have a nice red leather cover—something that TI-99 never had.

But even with its speed and style, I’m considering upgrading. But with everyone else considering the same thing, I’m a little worried about what it might fetch on eBay. I’d love a sure offer, and that’s what eBay Instant Sale can give me.

Never heard of eBay Instant Sale? It’s pretty cool, especially if you’re an electronics junkie aficionado.

So let’s say I want a solid offer on my iPad 2 and I don’t want to take time to photograph it and list it. The first thing I do is head over to the eBay Instant Sale website:

eBay Instant Sale

I enter “iPad 2” in the search box, click “Search” and see what options pop up:

The one on the far left is my model, so I click the link and am taken to a page where I can put in the important specs like memory, accessories and functionality:

Once I click “Calculate my offer,” an eBay offer of $340 pops up on the screen.

Now I can accept the offer, opt to sell the iPad 2 on my own or heave a big sigh and keep it for a little while longer.

*sigh*

The great thing about eBay Instant Sale is they totally have you covered. Shipping is paid for and insured (up to $500) complete with tracking so you’ll know when it arrives. Once the condition of your item is confirmed, your payment will hit your PayPal account within 5 days. Cha-ching!

You can find answers to any other questions you have about eBay Instant Sale on their FAQs page.

But here’s my question. What if your husband, in a moment where common sense failed him, engraved your iPad 2 with a sweet sentiment, your name and your phone number in case it got lost?

What if, in hindsight, it might not have been the best idea to put

For My Softy
Emily Hill xxx-xxx-xxxx

on the back because it reads more like “For a good time, call Emily Hill at xxx-xxx-xxxx?”

iPad 2 back engraved

I am currently trying to find the answer to that question. eBay Instant Sale doesn’t give you a place to note any flaws; all you can do is select WORKING or NOT WORKING. What about WORKING BUT WITH A RATHER EMBARRASSING ENGRAVING ON THE BACK?

Perhaps its one-of-a-kind status will up the offer to an even $400. A girl can hope.

I do know I’ll be instant selling my T-Mobile myTouch LG as soon as I decide on a new phone. That thing is going to be the death of me. It’s either eBay Instant Sale or the shooting range.

I so totally want to buy it from you. Then you wouldn’t have to worry about the engraving. But, I have no money. :(

I would totally sell it to you if it weren’t so “unique.” LOL I’ll be waiting a while before upgrading, that’s for sure.

Thanks for the ebay info! This is great to know, since I always thinks, “I should list this on eBay! Right after I do the 400 other things on my list today…” and it never gets done.

You were fabulous at the story@home conference! I’m excited to read your blog. I already love it. :)

Thank you so much, AnneMarie! You are too kind! The conference was awesome–can’t wait for next year. :) And trust me, I have two bags full of things for eBay that have sat in the office for a couple months waiting for the day when I have some actual “free” time…hahahaha!

I will have to do this instant sale for my husband’s iPad 1. I’m not totally sold on the new one (other than the much crisper screen- and for photo galleries and reading that could be a big improvement).

I love that your husband engraved it so sweetly with your phone number. I wonder if you could buff it out?

I’m sure there’s a way to buff it out, but we do love the little inside joke!

I haven’t heard of this instant sale, but I can tell you that I listed my iPhone4 on KSL last week and had 8 calls in half an hour (upgraded to the 4s by the end of the day!). Tech stuff goes fast if you list it barely under the average asking price. I too am an aficionado of tech.

Gotta love KSL classifieds–they totally rock! I guess Instant Sale would be good for the person who doesn’t want to answer multiple phone calls or deal with person-to-person selling. ;)
