Today’s green smoothie recipe is by Yvonne Feld from Tried and Tasty. I’m loving the idea of apple juice and the variety of leafy greens in this one, plus Yvonne’s photos are gorgeous (and her site is full of yummy recipes)!

I’m married to a health nut. Actually, he balances me out. If it weren’t for him I’d live off of sweets, treats and all things unhealthy. Within the last year or so we’ve tried to maintain a goal of drinking green smoothies at least five times a week. We may not always meet our goal but we try. It took a while to tweak the green smoothie recipe to my liking. It evolved from carrot and greens only (bleh), to carrot, an apple, and some greens without any juice (eek!) to what it is today: the recipe that I’m sharing with you (yum!).

First of all, without fruit I just can’t handle it. Plain and simple I can’t choke it down. With the addition of fruit juice and frozen fruit, this green smoothie is the perfect balance of just enough sweet to make it almost so delicious you wouldn’t know it was healthy! Give it a try, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I was!

Lean Green Health Machine
Servings: 2 large or 4 small

16 oz. apple juice
2 handfuls frozen fruit: strawberries, mango, pineapple, & papaya (we like the Festival Blend (tropical fruit)
from Costco)
1 frozen banana
Assortment of leafy greens: spinach (2 handfuls), kale (3 leaves), collard greens (2 leaves), parsley (small bunch) & rainbow chard (1 leaf)

Blend together juice, fruit and leafy greens until smooth. Drink up!
